ABOUT ABOUT

Two of Newfoundland and Labrador's most recognized voices are teaming up this winter for a one-time tour of the province. Roots-rocker Sherman Downey and balladeer Matthew Byrne, are combining their individual styles and repertoires to create an exciting fusion of traditional and modern music.  The Winter Island Tour starts in Ferryland on February 27th and makes 14 stops across the province before finishing up in St. John's at The Rocket Room on March 20th.

Known to many as singer and bouzouki player with The Dardanelles, Matthew Byrne has quickly earned his place as one of the East Coast’s most authentic and vital traditional voices. Following a family legacy of Newfoundland music makers, Byrne is strongly influenced by his unique musical lineage.  Stripped down, his live show offers powerful honesty, polished guitar work, masterful storytelling, and a voice that transports time, place, and oceans.

Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case have been wowing critics and fans since their 2010 debut release Honey for Bees with a melodic roots-rock sound which embraces folk, pop and country. Thick as Thieves, the first single from the band's 2013 sophomore effort, Sun in Your Eyes, earned the boys the title of “Best New Act in Canada” in the CBC Searchlight Contest, beating out over 3000 acts across the country. Their highly energetic and entertaining live show has floored audiences all across Canada and as far away as the Woodford Folk Festival in Australia.

Come in from the cold and warm yourself up with some of the finest music you're likely to hear this winter!
